The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Oh by the way how did your last hatch go?

I do have her on layer feed. So, it's just wait. Like I said, she is squatting when I pat on her. This is one of yours ya know. :) I should get a photo. She is really pretty, and very sweet. I wanted another after seeing how she is. The hatch with her was better. This time I only got 3 to hatch! Not sure what that was about. My overall hatch for the hatch a long was not good! I now have some Australorp in. I have 28 out of 36 eggs that will go into lock down tomorrow night. The only thing I can think of is, the air sacs were just bad this time on the Easter Hatch A Long eggs. A lot of saddle air sacs. A lot went in to lock down, but the ones with the bad air sacs didn't do too well. To be expected. Anyway, I am pretty sure I have a girl. I should post a picture of her too. She's small compared to the other EE's and OE's I hatched. Pretty sweet little face. Very active and doing well.

Here's the older one from months ago b.... will be 6 months old on the 18th..purty.. :)

Here are a few of the baby that hatched on Easter Day. Does this little stink look like
it's getting a thick comb?? It has to be a girl. Crossies!

Your pullet is very nice. Hope she lays for you soon. The chick you have here i'm 99.999% is a male. Sorry if you were hoping for a pullet. The 1st pic of it with his head turned says it all. No eye liner or black marking behind the eye. You said you had a couple others hatch this last time. Do they look the same around the eyes as this one?

b..this little one did have the liner..that's why I kept it. I noticed that too when I looked at the photos here..where did the liner go? ha, well, the others did not have any liner, plus the V was not much of a V. Splotchy V..and I thought that was part of telling. A couple of friends of mine got those.
Oh well, I am hoping my pullet lays soon. I know she is close, I sure love her personality..she comes around me more and more now, and I find the ones that are close to laying usually do get more friendly. She's a talker!
Her tail isn't as pretty as it will be. She got some feathers picked out when I introduced her to the flock a month ago. It's looking better now. She is right in there with them now, so that's a good thing. I think she just may lay in a nest box. Will have to post my first egg from her.

Here's a pic of the last male I hatched out. No eyeliner. (Terrible pic sorry) but he looks very similar to your top pic. But I hope i'm wrong and it's a she.

Anyone near Southern CA with any wellie pullets available? I have someone contacting me, but I don't have any pullets available right now. They think they can drive to me to pick one up, but I don't know that she realizes that I'm 9 hours away from Southern CA. All the pullets I have are staying right here until I make breeding decisions with them.

Ok, my Welsummer will be 6 months old on the 18th of this month..still no eggs? :( She is just now starting to squat for me when I catch her and pat her back side..upper part. :p Any time now?

I have waited up to 11 months for a pullet to start laying before. But if yours is squatting, then it will be soon. Usually mine start laying in the 24-30 week range.

Sure does. I'm thinking boy too. When I look at that comb, it sure is getting thick already. Oh well, will wait on my pullet. :) I may have to get more eggs from you in a while if you are still selling them. I will be keeping a few for myself to watch. Hopefully the shipping will be better this time around. I will want to order before it gets too hot..like towards the end of May? Ok? :)

Thank you Happy Chooks. And thank you for your help today. Going to use the reg. cartons, I don't have the plastic cartons. I didn't see that it was a problem while I was reading around.
