The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Thank you so much! I'll go back to the store tomorrow and pick a few out. (If there are any left) I may also try one from the misc. bin just to see what it turns out to be.

Your chicks are adorable by the way! Is there a difference in the wing feathers? The males wings in your photo look more barred than the females. Is that something else to look for?
Thank you and you are welcome. I hope you are able to find some Wellies they are great birds. The males do commonly have more barred wings than the females but not always. I very rarely pay much attention to the wing feathers because the head markings are so obvious with the eye liner and everything. If you find some with no eye liner and barred wings I would say don't get them if you don't want roos. Lots of eye liner and a dark V on top, you should be good.

My little broody Wellie hen managed to hatch all 9 eggs I put under her. She's a great little mom. It still amazes me to watch a hen with her chicks, teaching them how to be chickens. I put 4 welsummer and 5 black copper marans eggs under her. I'll try and get some pics posted this weekend.

This is my first time with welsummers and I must say they are a beautiful bird. Five are about 6 weeks old and the other five are 4 weeks old. They are going to be my favorite. Can't wait till the finish feathering out. Just wish I had a roo to go along with the gals.

Hey Henman I see you are from Arkansas. What part of the state are you in? I bet I could fix you up with a roo if you are willing to drive a little. I have 2 roos just hatched this week and 1 about 3 months old. I would part with any or all of them as I currently have enough breeder roos. Just give me a shout if you are interested.

If you breed a welie with a araucana you get chickens laying olive green eggs right. I think I read that.
If your araucana lays blue eggs then you should end up with a some shade of green, most commonly called olive eggers.
Ok then you are about 4 hours south of me. Might be a bit far for a chicken run. Lol

I'm in Ozark. Northwest part of the state. Between Russellville and Ft Smith on I-40. I would say the 3 month old would be a good fit. You can have him of you want to drive up and get him.
