One of my Wellie eggs this weekend.

Such a pretty hen, mine are about the same age. I have 4 and they are all laying now, first eggs were speckled, now they are just dark and quite large. You will be enjoying some eggs soon!
How soon? My wellie, Tabitha is 27-weeks today, and I haven't found the 1st dark egg anywhere.

My first Welsummer laid at 21 weeks, and all were laying by 23 weeks. I have several other hens that were already laying, so I don't know if that spurred them on or what. Mina is my dominant Wellie and she usually sits in the hen house cackling all morning encouraging all the others to lay, she is quite vocal but only at egg time.

I don't know what's going on with Tabitha, then. All I do know is she's 27-weeks-old, I don't think she's laying and she's at the bottom of this pecking order. Everyone runs her off.

what's with the fluff on the above welsummer? is that normal?

no disrespect to the welsummer pictured, i've just never seen that.

the fluff looks normal to me - it actually looks like her tail might have some damage from picking or it might be a little pinched in shape - which is making the fluff appear abnormal - it could also just be the angle she is standing at in the picture, since this picture looks like it was taken slightly from the rear and at and angle
