The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I am new to the welsummers. I picked up 2 from a local farm when I was getting EE's.
What are the main male female traits as a chick? Both look just alike.
What do you think male or female? If it was an EE I'd call them male because of the size.
I can get a better close up if needed.

if you are referring to the bird on the far left standing up - that is female

I might have an issue. I have two girls and a roo Welsummer on order and due in September. Here is a picture of my first two members of my new flock 9/10 weeks old. They are both Ameraucanas and supposed to be hens, the brown one has quite the tail feathers though and as a newbie I am left wondering. I'm wondering if I have to break out my saw and hammer for another coop. Any guesses...male/female on the brown one?
Both are girls. But they look like Easter Eggers to me. I have their twins! Ameraucana ,EE and OE 90% of the time the males have red or orange in the wings. It shows up at about 6 weeks old. Male will have a scattered pattern females are uniformed. Go to the Ameraucana thread and post your girls they are the experts. I have bought Amaucanas and posted them there only to be told nope Easter eggers. An expert I am not. But, I have had EE's for 4 years. I love the contrast of color and the green eggs. The EE thread has good info also. Good luck.

young splash EE not red but comb is dark and pattern is scattered.

young male EE most of the male look like him.

Beatrice has a very large tail

Scarlett also has a large tail.

Thanks for the info. I am new so go figure. The sign at the feed and grain said Ameraucanas and that is what I ordered from MyPetChicken.com (which looks a lot like the older brown one in my pic). I do not intend on showing so Im not sure what the difference to me would be if they are one type or the other. Now the egg colors do matter. I wanted the colored eggs.

Yes, that's the one ty. Both look alike so I got lucky and have 2 girls out of 2 chicks! Can you sex them on hatch day?
I believe you can tell on hatch day...Females have a dark clear V on their heads and very dark chipmock color The males have a fuzzy V and are much lighter.

The one in the middle is female. The two on the outside are males.
