The Welsummer Thread!!!!

This is my 5 wk Welsummer mix, I believe she's a Pullet due to her marking at hatch. I got her in a barnyard mix of eggs and her egg was a beautiful solid dark brown. Anybody want to give a guess to what she might be mixed with??

Dianne88 - I have no idea what yours could be crossed with, but she's a cool looking bird, very unique

I finally got a good quality body shot of my Welsummer which is apparently a X breed. Someone on here guessed she is an Australorp mix... but i'm not convinced... I would have thought she'd have much darker feathers and legs if she had Australorp in her. I'm wondering if she might have Barnevelder in her? (the breeder definitely had barnevelders too, i saw them) What are other peoples thoughts?



And just for the sake of it, here's my little roo who was supposed to be a pullet. I think he's adorable

His red coloured feathers are taking a long time to come in though. All my chicks are now 10 weeks old.

thanks, no boys, got them from Meyer, they were part of the rainbow pullet pack. They are shy and quiet right now, don't like to be caught or held at this point.

Trying to find a picture of a mix to compare her to. I think there may have been a RIR roo in the bunch?!?

I'm noticing an awfully lot of roosters that have the white fluff where the body and tail join at the back, and more often than not it looks white, not gray. Exactly what causes this and how hard is this to breed away from and correct? I have bantam Wellies, and I have yet to find a line that doesn't exhibit this fault.

I'm bumping this post since no one addressed it. I would like to know more about the tail fluff fault and why it is present. Thank you.
