The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Just found this thread! So excited I have 1 welsummer "Ginnie" and 2 Speckled Sussex "Rainie and Hermione".

Ginnie is about 28 weeks old and no eggs yet. Hermione is the same age and finally started squating this week. When should I expect my wellie to start ?
I moved them to the garage last week when I started to see frostbite and I leave the light on for them till 7:30pm. I can't wait to get that first dark brown egg!

My wellie is 29 weeks old and is showing hardly any signs of laying. (Ps I have a hermione, too!)

are they getting enough light ..i think its 15 hrs of light they need to keep laying at this time of yr ..and if they havnt started laying , they may wait till the days are longer before starting to lay ..dont cut that in stone , i maybe wrong about this ..

They are only getting about 12hrs of light. Mainly to give them more time to eat and drink to help them stay warm all night. My speckled Sussex just started laying this week, first egg yesterday!! So fingers crossed Ginny will too, but if not I'll just be patient

I have one that has been laying for weeks now and the other just started laying this week at 32 weeks. Hope things turn around for you soon!

I am! I'm actually working my way through all the books again right now; just finished Goblet last night.
However, I did not pick this name! My friend suggested it, because she looks so noble and brave, and she's ended up being the smartest of this batch of babies, too! She's a Cream Legbar, but she looked just like my Wellie as a chick.

I'm a little obsessed with Harry Potter, my Sussex is Ginny (As in Weasley) and I convinced my husband to let me make the extra bedroom a harry potter room. I have my display case full and just got 2 brooms at Halloween to hang the curtains on!

My Wellie squatted for the first time yesterday!!! First egg soon
