The Welsummer Thread!!!!

So excited I finally found a Welsummer rooster to go with my 6 hens!

I may be wrong since my Welsummers aren't laying yet, but from what I've read, people describe a typical Welsummer egg as "terra cotta color with speckles."
Maybe that's the one you've mentioned? My girls don't spend a long time in the nesting boxes, so I'm sure I could miss that!!
Welsummer eggs can have speckles or not. But Terra cotta (clay pot color) is desired for the breed.

Just wanted to jump in on this thread and say hi from Colorado. We are the proud owner of two Wellies and they are beautiful, but ours a bit flighty. One doesn't like to be caught and held the other one will tolerate it. Our's are 37 weeks and they lay both darker eggs and some with spots or speckling. Here are a couple shots

Saffron

And the eggs, the darker ones I believe are from the Welsummer's, we have 23 layers so hard to know for sure. We get some speckled ones here and there as well.

Love all the pics of the Wellies in this thread.

all the wellies run from me ..my roo's been getting his backside picked at ..i spent 20 minutes trying to catch him to put some blue kote on him ..i have a couple wellie girls the backs are missing feathers ..i thought someone was pick at them but am now thinking its the roo mounting them and pulling feathers out when he does..i have tried putting aprons on them but like i said they wont come close enough and at night they scream bloody murder when ya just touch them ..it makes it hard to dust them for bugs when they are like that ..when i can get my hands on the roo he mellows right out and i think he knows i am trying to help him ..a friend told me to be careful that his roo was real friendly and then one day he just started getting mean..

Lol, yes "high" from Colorado and from Boulder County, one of the most green friendliest counties in Colorado. Thanks for the complements on the girls, they are such a pretty breed. On the almond colored eggs, not totally such who is laying those colors, hard to know with 23 laying, unless you catch them in the act. Yes winters are hard getting things done, much prefer our spring and summer weather, but lived here all my life and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. What types of personalities do you Wellies have? Do you have pics, would love to see!

this is levon .his name is from the elton john tune ..hes my only roo ..he used to think he was pretty studly till the wyandottes got bigger then him ..hes still the man but has to many ladys for him to watch over ..i notice every once in awhile he gets fed up with all of them and he goes and stands in a corner to get away from them all..hes still marches them in to eat in the morning ..he brings them in 4 at a time to eat ..kind of funny to watch ..

this is one of my production birds ..very good layers they are or were ..starting to slow down now tho..2 yrs old this spring ..

as you can see i have a few wyandottes....

i havent taken any new pics in awhile ..these are from aug i think ..in these pics , my old flock and my new were still apart ..you can see the divider fence to keep them apart..
