The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Well I'm looking for breeder quality, but I'm have absolutely no luck finding breeders in my area so I will take hatchery quality so I can have a mixture of egg color. I don't breed or show, just have back yard pets that I adore. But I see now that this is normally not the right thread for me, don't feel very welcome on here...

Beaker Farm in SC might not be too far from you.  They ship day old chicks occasionally.  you may want to contact them.  They are listed on the Welsummer Club of North America breeder list.  Whitmore farms ships chicks as well, and there is a breeder in Alabama that ships adults and chicks.

But, don't feel like you have to buy from a breeder.  If you just want birds for a mixed flock, hatchery birds are just fine. :D

Thanks, but I only have room for 1 welsummer because like I Saud I have a back yard mixed flock just for eggs, so I don't want to ship just 1 chick, and frankly don't have the extra money for high shipping cost. That's why I was looking for a very local breeder I could drive to. Also all the feed store around here are not getting welsummer so I guess s I'm striking out this season. Maybe next year????

I have Welsummer cockerels in need of new homes. PM me if interested :)

Hi, have a pair of 8 week old Welsummers that came to me uexpectedly as 3 day old chicks. I believe I have 1 pullet and 1 cockerel, but I would really like feedback from experienced Wellie folks. Am I right -- one of each?

Thanks very much for your help!

Yep!!

Really?!?!  Well that blows both the markings and the wing feather growth theories all to heck!

Yea, I was a little disappointed but I kept the lighter chick and got him 2 hens. Their offspring don't seem to be just as difficult to sex, the males seem to have dark breast feathers coming through quite early but there's no real difference as day olds.
