I'm getting hatching eggs from @bwalden on here. I wanted chicks last year but couldn't find a breeder that would ship them. This year I have an incubator so I went with hatching eggs. Hope this helps! I know how frustrating it is to be looking and looking and not getting any info from anyone! :hugs

HI ya'll, am newbie to Welsummers and pretty much a newbie to chickens in general. I am so exited about this breed. Three weeks ago we brought home 3 new baby Wellies! I was hoping for a little roo in the mix and I think by gally I picked me one! He is 3 weeks old with quite the comb

Here is a peek at a part of my chicken flock. A line up of my Wellies and our 1 week baby Orpington: Ricky Roo, Ethel, Lucy and Lil Darling the Orp

I visit with these babies often, but am surprised at how skiddish they still are. Is this common with Welsummers? Compared to all my other chicks these three want nothing to do with me. Poo...Does anyone have some good tips to help me befriend these little chicks before they grow too old and feel too cool for me????

they are so cute at that age ..congrats on the new flock ..you will want to pick them up each day and check their butts to make sure they are clean and have no pasty butt.. ..the more they get used to you picking them up the better ..they can be skiddish but with time they will get used to you picking them up ..it will help you once they get older and you need to handle them ..they shouldnt be so flighty then..the roo you'll want to hold alot when hes little ..he can get a little bully once he gets bigger if you dont take control right away ..by handling him , he should see your in charge and wont challange you for the top dog or top roo in this case ..lol

can i ask what your using for litter in the brooder ..it looks alot like the pellet feed i use ..lol

remember no cedar ..it can be deadly to chicks and chickens ..

good luck and enjoy ..

Thank you for the tips Wny Egger! You're right, and my goal is to befriend my little Roo so in the future we'll get along much easier.

I have and Orpington that is 3 weeks older and we are pretty certain the combs and wattles are undeniably the makings of a roo! And I couldn't be happier with how friendly and sweet he is! Currently the Wellie and Orp are separated cause of the age difference. By chance do any of you have tips or ideas of how or when on introducing them??? I imagine they will have their moments, but I am hoping to transition them into friends or at least tolerable aquatints. Any thoughts or experience would be useful for me to consider.

I can't recall the name of the litter, but yes its the right stuff for chicks. I must say, I am so thrilled they started eating out of my hand. I have hope!
