Hi Welsummer folk,

My juvenile cockerel from Whitmore. Comments and critiques wanted!

they are really too young to evaluate - but the first thing I see is that their legs are very light in color - a young bird like that should have bright yellow legs.

As they get older if you want detailed evaluation take a picture looking straight on, from the side, from the top down and from the rear. Also one of the wing spread out. A video can also be helpful for evaluations, but tougher to see details

Lots of colors! He looks pretty to me. What about his tail feathers? I've never seen then down turned like that. Do they stick upward too?

Wonder if anyone can help me determine the sex of my little nugget.
I ordered 2 female welsummers with a mix of other breeds, but this little guy or gal has me questioning that.
The top 3 of the questionable suspect. The bottom 3 is my female, Summer.

I noticed from the moment I opened the box from the hatchery his/her markings were not like the other wellie.
Of all 8 that I received, his wings are shorter than the group. His strip on his head is very blurred as well as his eye liner.

Thoughts?
TIA

Just to follow up on this post.... He turned out to be a he with no doubt. At 2 weeks his comb was very evident and now that comb is bright red with complimentary waddles. Love him non the less but he'll have to go soon.

I have 2 chicks I'm not sure what they are, could one be a Welsummer, they have different colored legs and tufty heads so I'm not sure they both are if one

I posted in the what's my bird section on here and that's the best idea I came across. Very curious to see what they end up being. Thoughts?

Whow, never saw Wellies with puffy heads before. Maybe crossed with something?

I have a chance to pick up some Welsummer pullets to balance out two chicks that decided they HAD to be boys for us.

I kept hoping till I heard that first 'help I'm being strangled' crow out of them. Very pleased to get some more of these birds. The girls are such little ladies and our two boys are gentle natured (so far) and beautiful birds. I'm planning to build a pen/coop for them in the existing pen so they can be introduced into the flock without too much trauma but I'm expecting our Buffs to give them a bit of a hard time. Any advice on blending in new pullets?
