The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I would guess possibly.......unless it is just one particular male that they don't care for. I have had that happen. But if it is any cock, and the hens are mature and not broody, then I would tend to think it is something besides the cock bird's personality. Does everyone have lots of room? Crowding can bring out stress behaviors not normally seen in more relaxed flock structures.
Nope, no crowding. I just moved them to a larger coop that is actual three times the size of their old coop. They seem happy, Sing a lot, Act normal. Not broody. I have four roosters. Right now I have a mild mannered Buff O rooster in with them all the time and have been rotating the other 3 adult roosters every couple of weeks, I've never seen the BO mount two of the 5 hens. Nor have I seen the Welly rooster I just rotated out. There are some juvenile cockerels in with them but those boys can't even look at those girls without being sent on their way. I saw the Lavender O rooster in with them now try to mate with one of the two and she spun away and attacked him. This roo is birdzilla, but he ran for his life.

Well after looking at many pictures on this forum I'm afraid my Polly that I bought as a pullet at TSC is possibly not a pullet but a Cockerel what do you think since you all have Wellies you might can tell me better. 1st pic is just a few days old. Then about a week and then 4 weeks.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid of that. All i need is one more roo. He is super sweet and gentle. It seems that my last group of purchased chicks is 90% male. I wanted all pullets. I have like 10 cockerels or more now. Now just have to decide who stays and who goes

Wendy, the one spurred wonder, is broody for her second summer. She hatched guinea keets last summer. What kind of eggs should she try out this time? Thinking maybe mottled java, since my order from sandhill has failed to ship all 4 possible dates.
