The Welsummer Thread!!!!

So, she finally laid today. I caught her in the nest box, and after she left there was no egg. Then later there was one dropped in the run.
Unfortunately after the long wait, the egg is a light brownish beige. Minimal Welsummer in that cross I guess. It was a good size for a first egg at 46g. Hopefully she'll at least be a consistent layer.

Here is her 1st egg:

Well YAY! On first egg. Meh, on not so dark brown. I am sorry it was a bit of a disappointment. But, they taste the same, no matter what they look like!

I hear so much from people who have eaten eggs from our birds how much better they taste than store bought eggs. The shells are twice as thick and the yolks are huge and creamy.

Unfortunately my girls are freeloading right now as they are going into molt. No 2.35 ounce Welly eggs for the time being.

I sure enjoy reading all the chicken post and feel sorry for the hub as he has to listen to my daily chicken updates.
A few weeks ago I posted two of my 16 wk wellies were laying.....they did for two weeks and total of 6 little dark brown speckled eggs and stopped laying. So its back to the waiting on them.
I have seen the rooster "James Bond", mate two of the wellies so I think thats a good sign. He is a bit skiddish of me and I like it so he sees me higher in the pecking order. I sure enjoy having a beautiful rooster for the flock. Keep posting!

I wonder if my started then stopped? I was sure that they were laying soft eggs for a little while. Then nothing. I've looked everywhere and can't find any hidden eggs!!

My wellies are doing great as Fall seems to be coming in here in Central Georgia. We have three extra roos if someone needs one; they are 9 weeks old and doing well. Our stock came from Greenfire and we are really pleased with them.

New to this, but this hen is giving me bluish eggs daily. What do I have?
Welcome to BYC!

Yeah, you're in the wrong thread, easy to do at first...blue eggs not Welsummer, probably an Easter Egger.

But if you start a new thread in the 'breed forum' with pics of bird and eggs someone one will able to tell you what breed you have.

Welsummer chicks from this year are maturing nicely. I ended up with one cockerel and one hen. Lost that one chick to aerial predator under the care of a broody silkie. Probably lucky I didn't lose both to be honest. Made sure that I brooded the other Welsummer pullet to a better size. Anyways here we are: October already. Eggs any time! Can hardly wait.

Funny how they know they are bird of a feather. They do like flocking these two...
