Her eggs ARE dark! Wellies can lay from a lighter brown, to light brown with dark splotches or dark speckles, or half brown/half light brown -- all depending on the brown pigmentation that occurs prior to the hen laying her egg. Our Marans would lay a different pattern of speckles or solid eggs depending on how the egg traveled the oviduct and got pigmented. Very pretty eggs -- both of them!
Interesting! I did notice a couple eggs that were sort of splotchy medium/dark brown last week (I ate them, sorry
, and I had a couple lighter eggs with speckles that I assumed were from one of my other mixed breeds -- I'll have to keep an eye out for variations. I know these dark ones are her, since she was the first to lay. I also had an egg that was medium brown with light speckles! Grab bag of mutt chicken eggs. Ha.
