Good luck with the expansion and move...it always hard work but you will love it once your all settled. I'm sorry for your son but it sounds like he was pretty sure about what he was comfortable with and who wouldn't love holding a Speckled Sussex Roo........they're awesome birds.

Do stick around the thread....we'll miss you if you go!

Besides, I want to see how your chicks turn out pinkchick. After loosing almost your entire flock it is like a revival! LOLOL

I do want to keep up with this breed. And maybe that is a problem because I was reading another post.....gosh I am frustrated really. Here is the link to a discussion on Welsummers and a picture of Opa's eggs.....

Our eggs were every bit as speckled and dark (even some darker) as the ones in the center of his picture but now look like the ones on the side. Maybe I am crazy for selling these guys off? UGH! I will have space, just have to get through the bad weather to divide two coops this weekend. Oh decisions decisions. If only they were laying now.

Isn't that the truth!!!!
Now my long 6 month wait has started to see who will make the grade for the breeding pen and who will not.

LOL! I don't know if I am cut out for staggered hatching.....don't know that I will be trying it again anytime in the near future. It's exhausting!

I can imagine! I know how little sleep I got with 1 set of eggs hatching.

But strangely, I can't wait to do it again. I already have the eggs lined up, just waiting closer to spring.

Ah but less exhausting than foal watch! Can't tell you how many nights I did that for years, only to go in for a coffee refill and come out and baby on the ground. UGH!

Pink sounds like you have a great start to a new flock!

Truth be told I am crazy because I have 4 more Wellie eggs set for hatch on the 19th but atleast I gave myself some breathing/sleeping room by a couple of weeks instead of just a couple days and I know this for sure after attempting a staggered hatch........I will make sure that hatch dates are always on Friday or Saturday, never again will hatch day be on a Tuesday or Wednesday! OMGosh I would have liked to have just taken a nap at work a couple of times!

Foal watch.......TRUE so TRUE! Those are childhood memories that will never fade but man was it tiring. We kids had standard horses but my mothers passion is in Mini's. Foal watch for the Mini's.....I'm glad that is my mom's gig!
