It is the age. They will get worse before they get better. I think 3 to 4 week old are the most skittish. By the time they are 8 to 10 weeks old they will associate you with food and come running at feed time, though keep their distance the rest of the time. If you want them to be friendly, like cats or dogs this is the time to start feeding them from your hand. Be forewarned that if you make them too friendly they will always be underfoot. I have some birds that like to be between my feet and I'm always stepping on their feet.

That is another plus for sand floors because, I have yet to really hurt one from this.

Yes- that's Groovy Man that I got from Emmalyn. He's totally spoiled. I'd like to give him some wellie girls when they are old enough- bet they'd make really pretty chicks!

My welsummers are almost 21 weeks old now. I noticed this morning that Feisty is getting really red and she has twice the wattles of her sister. So she'll be my first one to lay. Cleopatra still looks like she's got awhile yet. I haven't noticed any squatting, but Feisty got her name for a reason, and I can't get very close to her. She'll come up to me for treats, but always stays an arms length away.

Moose's saddle feathers have grown so much and his coloring is so beautiful. I'll have to get a current picture of him to post.

Yep its the age. My Bantams go nuts, freaky when they were young. This time they are personable and they would chatter but kept their distance a bit because I had to catch them now and then so they do not forget!
