Nate Most of my welsummers are from whittmore farms except for a few of my hens.
.
They use to have really nice welsummers, But from what I have heard their quality is slipping !
I got lucky and got their stock 3-4 yrs ago. They are Amazing ! I am just now starting to breed welsummers full time for next seasons shows.
My friend got some marans and ameracaunas last year and they didn't look as good as their past stock. I think he said some looked mixed breed.
We won 1st & 2nd Place with our welsummers, Best Of Breed, & Reserve of Breed at The FANCY FEATHERS SHOW IN NB. TX.
I will try to post some better pics tonight or tomorrow morning.

My egg color ranges from light teracotta to as dark as marans level 5-7 on the charts. My egg color has lightend up though, with me having crossed in some exhibition stock in with my exhisting stock.
I am working for a stronger tail, and broader backs, and darkening my wellies eggs again.
I just had to have some Welsummer chicks. I ordered 10 and had to destroy 2 because they peck two of the chicks eyes out when I first got them.
I have 8 and I hope I have at least one rooster because they are beatiful since I ordered stright run I should have roosters and pullets.
I have hopes of having brick red eggs this fall.
Thanks! Yep he's a big one. His son that I am growing out, so far is not showing the size factor that his father did at his age...hoping that the son stays closer to the standard breed size. Mainly hoping to carry over Odin's coloring and temperment, not mention that he hatched from a very nice egg.
Here is his son taking advantage of some sun yesterday afternoon.....lazy little bugs!
Hard to make out his little comb but I am really liking it.....sooooooo glad it's not turning out like his dad's
Pink, your roo is beautiful but his comb is kinda off....did he suffer from frostbite? If not, the comb is not of correct standard. He got three sprigs and two huge flesh parts front and back that makes it odd. Realistically, he should have at least five points, serrated EVENLY. I can not really tell about the back of the comb but it should not go downward of the skull but going outward.
Other than that, they are nice as they go!
I am sorry to hear that Whitmore Farms are declining, what makes you say so? I certainly hope they are not slipping or getting sloppy with their program.

Pattypenny it does look as if you do have rooster to me anyway. Where are the from ? Most likely you and I are in the same league, just starting out with "just so"
birds ! sigh
Flower wanted to know whence came my welsummers, Cackle hatchery is where I ordered them. I ordered stright run which is the only way they were selling them. I got my order in just in time right after they took my order they put on the web site that they were sold out. I have read the information on this site about how to sex welsummers and if that is correct I have 6 pullets and two rooster. I am anxious for the breast feathers to come in because then I should know for sure about the sex.
