The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Ok folks you asked for my Welsummer set up in the city LOL!

Nice setup EWE, I really like the picture of the babies and mama Orp in the garden with the sun back lighting the green green plants. Nice Roma tomatoes too. LOL

It was beautiful today when I took some pictures. Thank you!

Romas are doing ok but been finding bite marks, not like peck marks but the Momma is not eating them much.....my Dad said squirrels love tomatoes! Need those Ninja squirrels to warn them off!

I was glad to get the coop done, it was a MESS! Cobwebs, some kind of big ol spit ball mark on back wall.

Ilove my Welsummers with one exception, of my favorite hen, the one that was coming in the doggy door, that is Summer and Spring is in the nesting box with her tail hanging out, she is the broody one.

Ewe~

Fantastic set up! I love it, I can see why it works great for a city backyard. Nice Job!

Mamma and babies look so happy!

Not much here either....just working on changing up the breeding coops and birds for some fall test matings if everyone cooperates.
Glad the babies are doing well, yeah they sure do grow fast. Wish they would lay an egg just as fast, the whole six month thing is a drag. haha

My broody wellie girl is still broody- but I have caught her, and the cochins occasionally standing over the eggs. It's so flipping hot- I don't know how they do it. I'd like to be brooding some ice about now!

I was going to sell off 2 pairs of wellies, but I sold one and decided to keep the other. I need a decent back-up roo just in case, and it never hurts to have more girls around! I just wish they'd grow up a little faster so I can get them out of the juvie coop.

Speaking of the heat....we've had a bit of a break from the hot weather but when it is sweltering here, I put out a sprinkler/mister for the birds on each coop run, the Wellies are the only ones that will stand in the mist of the water or sprinkler, all the others run like my goats at the first drop of rain straight back to the coop. The Wellies are also the only birds that I have that will tolerate being outside in the rain, and we get lots of rain here. Has anyone else noticed this with their Wellies and not being bothered by the rain or water?

Mine all stay out in the rain, looking like drowned rats- but my wellie roo is the only one to really stay out in the bright sun. I'm glad he's not a white bird or he'd be totally off-color by now.

We are at day 14 of incubation and have 16 Welsummer eggs that are looking good! Lockdown is Sunday Aug 15th with hatching on Wednesday Aug 18th!

My kidsare getting excited to see what will hatch!

Very hot/humid here as well, no broodies at this time.
