My late developing Welsummer Cassie is also a larger chicken, and actually larger than my BR and BA. However, this BR is on the small side (of the three BR I've had, she is possibly the smallest).

Vermongal in Salt.......Just like Pink said those girls will be laying and most likely will be laying for a long time since they are slow at development. I also enjoyed the dual purpose "Cassie" for potential casserole .

Well, I think I may need to figure out what Willow is. She was sold to me as a 'probably welsummer?' by an amateur. She's beautiful, but she's got a white ear and just laid her first egg - and it's white. Oops.

Here's a couple old pics of her from before she got her red comb:

(she's the middle one, between the buff orpington and the sicilian buttercup)

And another, with Stella.

So what looks like a lot like a Welsummer but lays white eggs?

EDIT: So, I've been looking through other threads, and apparently I have a Brown Leghorn. I was hoping for a Wellie! Ah well. White eggs are good too...

Thanks flower.

My husband is actually happy cuz now we have two Italian chickens (he's Italian). I'm happy about it now that I got used to it. It was just such a surprise - here I'd been thinking I was going to get terracotta eggs. Nope. I'll just have to wait for my baby's (BCMs) to grow up and give me eggs before I get dark ones. Maybe next year I'll get a welsummer.

Hi Annaraven!

Welcome! Sorry she isn't a Welsummer but when you do get one you will be very pleasantly surprized at how fast you will fall in love with them. That's Amore!

Your chooks are very pretty none the less.

I'm tellin' ya, we love our wellie like she was a kid. I know we're not supposed to play favorites, but sometimes when DH isn't home, I let the welsummer in the house with me for a few minutes at a time, only in the back part of the house where there are ceramic tile floors, though (easier to clean up/disinfect the spot if she drops a poo in the house... which is another reason I only let her in for a few minutes at a time). When he's home, he jokes about how she's so relentless about wanting in, completely unaware that when he's not here, I let her in. Truth be told, he'd probably be okay with it because she's HIS favorite, too.

I always tease him that Martha (wellie) is my competition for his affections. Hehehe.

Truthfully, she is by far the sweetest of our original flock and I definitely want more welsummers next year when we expand the flock.
