The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Hi Guys!!!!
Does anyone have any experience of a welsummer hen who made a good mother, i was just wondering as i have a wellie mama sitting on 4 eggs due too hatch tuesday, and i read they make poor mothers?

It's unusual to have a welsummer go broody and it's even rarer to have one that you would call a good mother. Keep us posted as to how yours does.
 
will do. she has gone broody a lot this year so i eventually gave up and gave her some eggs. so far she is doing great and seems to care a lot for her eggs, she goes into lockdown tommorrow!! i hope she does well!!

Like the pictures of the eggs that everyone is sharing so far! Here is what we get from our girls: sometimes one has bigger splotches on it but that varies.

I couldn't have held three eggs in my palm like you did unless they were bantam eggs! I was afraid of dropping them the whole time I took the picture.

Please note that all of them are older, like 5 or 6 years old except for the last pic. He was only 7 mos old when he was killed.

I only have one Welsummer hen left, a dog(s) killed 20 birds. I lost my English Orps, Welsummers, and EE's.

But now I am getting some eggs! Please send out safe travel vibes to them.
