The Welsummer Thread!!!!

24 birds, would one of them be Welsummers? Let us know how they did! So I can post it in the WCNA for show results! Get a good photograph of the exhibitor and the bird.

Name, age, class/4H and location the show was in so I can put some information under the photographs. Good luck and keep those birdies COOL! It is going to be miserable!

Actually 4 of them will be Welsummers(cockeral, pullet, hen and cock), DD is taking them as the Continental class last year didn't have many, she will be competing against her brother(9) who is showing for the first time this year with Campines. A friend of ours got a pair of Welsumer chicks from me this spring and they did fantastic at her county fair in open class- the cockeral took I believe the top award overall and the pullet was right up there too!

One egg peeping, pipped and working on zipping. No others pipped yet. We are on day 20 as of 6 pm this evening.

It is in the hatching drawer so I can assist if needed and chickie can stay warm in there while buddies catch up on this hatching thing!

Tonight I was once again reminded that getting older doesn't mean getting smarter. I was disappointed with only getting 2 out six with the broody and was hoping for an excellent hatch from the incubator. When I was wondering aloud why none had hatched today I realized the date was the 16th. I put the eggs in lockdown on Wednesday and they should have gone into lockdown today. What a major screwup. I sure hope that I haven't killed my hatch.

THought someone said my girl is a welsummer.. but another said mabey a Welsummer-game hen mix I 'm not sure. but IF she is.. Here she is.. she is our stray who adopted us and gave me 11 chicks, and she's one good mommy!

One egg pipped at noon, several more are pipping around 6 pm.

WORRIED!!! I upped the humidity some more so they don't shrinkwrap.

Opa, hope your hatch is ok. Were those McSpin's eggs? Mark your calendar and remember to keep them in the bator long enough.

I forget too and have to write stuff down.

'Night.

39 went into lockdown. So far (day 21) 12 have hatched. One is pipped and I did the water test again and there should be 6-8 more pipping, BUT nothing has been going on for the last 6 hours, so I'm clueless.

Had 2 that got overheated under the brooder lamp and they both appear to have recovered. They had to be cooled down and gave them sugar water and it's been 4 hours and they both seem to have pulled out of it.

I'm hoping the laggers pip overnight. Humidity is up to 75%.

Cheers all,
Bonnie
