'Here are 3 of my fathers Wellie Girls"

I have sent her an email and asked her to post it hear and maybe we can find out if they know what the lines are.

I have NEVER seen such a beautiful photo of the Wellies. Colors and contrast are just AWESOME.

Now everybody go look because we want THAT PHOTO to make it into the calendar and if we all go and VOTE on it, maybe it will make it!

Cheers all, I've got 12 little chickie and the one left in the bator has it's yolk sac on the outside so I have to go see if it's still alive (I hate this part of incubating! Those stragglers hardly ever make it out)

The Chickenstock Wellies are in their feathers now (3 weeks old) and look like a bunch of partridges, shaft color and partridge splotches the whole bunch and a few with the combs beginning to stick up. They are cool in the basement and the hot weather (98) is keeping them there for a bit longer.

The Teens in the Greenhouse are hot and muggy. It is cooler than outside, but a bit muggy. The 2 silkies still seem to be TOP DOGS and are in full puffy feathering and GORGEOUS. Think they will be alright to run with this flock or will the roos eventually want to mate them? Anyone know how to tell a girl from a boy on Silkies?

Now go over to the CALendar Contest page and look at that photo. It isn't mine or I would post it here and then you could all drool, too!!

Bonnie

Wellie Roo over Barred Rocks, all pullets bred back to Wellie Roo over last 6 years of linebreeding produced them. They are raising Whitmore cockerals now to put over these "Wellie Rocks".

Msbear is in Maryland and she is going to Ohio Nationals and if you want eggs, contact her in the spring.

I realize that this isn't PURE Wellies, but they are gorgeous and crossed with the rocks has made them a useful dual purpose bird with more meat on them. I'm hoping for a separate flock of these if I can get them just for my pleasure and rooster camp! That was the one drawback I've been seeing in the Wellie to standard is that they are a narrower bird and not as suited to dual purpose.

Does anyone have Wellie pictures that are this beautiful, with such nice high contrast? How about submitting them to the Calendar page?

I searched on Calendar and scanned down the results until it came to the right thread. This thread was in the BYC Newsletter which just hit my inbox.

Wellie Rocks anyone?

I love the term "Wellie Rocks" LOLOL! They would make beautiful egg layers! I do enjoyed seeing Welsummers in pastures and it is a good contrast. I often wondered about their egg colors LOL!

Thanks to MsBear in sharing the story. Those girls are lovely of their own, the Wellie Rocks LOL! Hey, she may have started her own breed LOL!

Hello,

I have not been on this thread in a while....but I have a question. Has anyone ever hatched out a Welsummer x Guinea chick/keet? In one pen, I have Welsummer and Ameraucana hens running with a Welsummer rooster. During the day, they all run in the yard with a pair of Guineas. I hatched out some Welsummer and Olive Eggers a few days ago. I was very surprised when a chick hatched from a Welsummer egg, looked like a guinea (picture below). I was not sure what a Guinea keet looked like, so I went and bought a week old Guinea keet for comparison (second picture). The Welsummer/Guinea (?) chick is larger than the keet I bought, and it does not have white on it's underside. Has anyone had any experience with this? I have never seen the male Guinea even try to mate with the chickens, but something happened.

Thanks for the link, and you're right - great photo. Now, 3 questions: 1) How do you vote for a photo? 2) How do you submit a photo? and 3) how do you get a BYC newsletter emailed to you? I've never gotten one....
