Thanks! I love them too!

Tell me what you think about the disposition of those 2 breeds. I have 6 Welsummers (from Cackle Hatchery) and they aren't very friendly. If I'm going to move them or check them over I wait until night or they just freak out! They are also very vocal, I think. Would love to hear your experience.

My wellies are curious and friendly, although they do not like to be handled. They are most definitely not lap chickens. I do have 1 girl that is a bit on the flighty side (she'll still come for treats though), but when she was introduced to the flock, she was abused by the others pretty badly and she has not forgotten it. They do love to sing their egg song and want the whole world to hear it.

My barnevelders are very calm and mellow. They are probably the most "laid back" breed I have hatched so far. Mine aren't lap chickens, because I don't work on making them lap chickens - though it probably wouldn't be hard.

Here is a better photo of some Wellie eggs next to some Barnie eggs.
Wellies in the middle and 4 Barnies are in the second row from the right.

AGREED 1000%!!!!!!

And I don't think it would be that hard to make lap chookies out of the Barnies either, they are total teddy bears.

Pictures can be deceiving when it comes to egg color. For example, the Wellie eggs posted in HC's pic appear to be on the light side but the Barnie eggs in the same pic appear to be just right for what I'm used to seeing. In fact, the Barnie egg at 7 o'clock in the latest pic is a very nice looking egg IMO. On the other hand, Kim's Marans eggs appear to be just slightly darker than my Wellie eggs and her Wellie eggs lighter as well which I imagine is not the case in both instances.

Ok, I've tried NUMEROUS times to download a pic from "tinypic" like I did before a long time ago but it doesn't seem to be working. If there is a different way of doing it now, would someone please send me a PM or email and let me know. I'll need to save the directions. In the mean time, you might want to look at the Wellie eggs from my Skydrive here: https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=d15cfd025be1e503&sc=photos

Just click on the "Eggs" album and check out the difference in how the various pics look although they are all the same batch of eggs.

God Bless,

It is very difficult to get accurate pictures of the colors. I have found natural light works best, outside but not in direct sunlight. The eggs are darker in real life than they appear in the picture. The barnevelder eggs kinda washed out in the picture too.

This picture is more accurate on my wellie egg coloring:

And I love that 7 o'clock barnie egg too.

Fantastic picture they look great!.

This past spring I spent alot of time trying to get the egg color right in pictures for my website tried different light and backgrounds. In my house by an open window worked pretty good.
In the spring I had Hatchery Wellies their eggs were lovely but I sell chicks/eggs and birds so I sold them to be replaced with better bloodlines so I am patiently waiting for the new girls to lay their first eggs since I know the color will be even better
