I love that camera that took pics of Martha.......she is a beauty!

Glad everyone is agreeable on the strains, nicks and hopefully everyone is on the same page.

My wife and I stumbled across a Welsummer. I have to say that she is by far our most unique chicken. A little stand-offish, but coming around. She is a great layer and is such a gentle little girl. Glad to have her.

Wow I finally got through this entire thread............ What beautiful birds you all have and those eggs............ I have got to get me some wellies come spring. The Pink wellies are so very pretty? are they new or a new project? I have never seen any Wellies that color, mostly I see the darker ones. I think they are all gorgeous even the hatchery birds are not terrible, and if they all lay them awsum terracotta eggs............wow!!! I need pullets next year anyway to add to my flock and I sure would love maybe 4 of these gals. I can't hatch eggs No bator, but do any of you all ship chicks? or do you live near enough to me that I could come get some? I'm in NE Wisconsin, about 40 miles west of Green Bay. Thanks for this great thread and I will be keeping track of this thread for sure. Kim

so funny! mine started up again yesterday too! One hen is laying an egg that is a darker terra cotta than she did before the molt - two of the others eggs are a little lighter- its interesting to see the change. These hens will all be 2 in the spring.

I plan on isolating my best two hens and one roo and hatching some of just those eggs to replenish my stock in the spring - I will be asking opinion on which are the best. The picture taking could be a bit of a challenge - may have to enlist DH lol

as to lines - my current birds are a closed flock, 5 hens and 2 roos that are firstgeneration of eggs I hatched from Nate along with 2 hens that are second generation. My goals are to: maintain the feather coloring and body shape I have, maintain and improve the yellow on the legs, get better combs on the roos, and shorter wattles on the roos. I also want to breed the eggs that are the darkest terra cotta I have that are solid colored (I don't like the spots, though many do)
