These chicks were both from Welsummer parents, no crosses, so it must be either a fluke or some hidden gene. I plan to keep it for awhile to see what the sex is & if it's a hen it may get to stay for an egg producer. I don't raise Welsummers, I just wanted a couple of hens for eggs because I was told they are good layers, I have never had any before. I asked for some eggs from a friend of mine who has only Welsummers & these two hatched from those eggs. I do think it will be interesting to see how the chick feathers out though, even though it doesn't conform to standards.
