I am fascinated by this bird..we identify most birds by their outward appearance, their phenotype, and associate certain things with that. The Whiting True Blue however can look radically different from bird to bird, but always carries the gene for producing a blue egg. I ordered four from Murray McMurray hatchery, and last April 8 I received them. They’ll be 18 weeks old tomorrow, here are some pics so you can see how neat their appearance is. They are supposed to be prolific layers, I’ll let you know about that when they start, right now they are very slight birds compared to my Cuckoo Marans, Bielefelders, Black Australorp, and Speckled Sussex.

Ehhhhh... I'm pretty sure those with muffs are not WTBs. If I remember correctly, they were bred without muffs, and those are a dominant trait so they shouldn't have them
Nope. They can have them, or not. I love how the “experts” always come out to tell you what you don’t have. Not like I did extensive research on it, or anything…lol..

and another..

Description

Several years ago McMurray Hatchery acquired the “Whiting True Blue.” This is a line of chickens developed by Dr. Tom Whiting to lay blue eggs. Since egg color is the only thing he selected for, the birds can visually look like almost anything – from Easter Eggers with muffs and beards to Blue Andalusians, and every thing in between. We get day old’s from McMurray and raise them up for sale as started pullets so you can add a blue egg to your basket.

Wow, okay then, sorry. 🙄 I just wanted to present an option in false there were substitutes in your order. Never once claimed to be an expert.

Facebook isn't exactly guaranteed to have scholarly articles only either
Yes, Facebook..bleh..not a scholarly source for sure. I’m sorry too.. I don’t mean to get snarky, but, this site sometimes seems like a forum for ppl attacking..it’s happened to me, just didn’t mean to blow up..that’s why the “lol”..not that that helps. I’m really in love with the WTB..they really can look like virtually anything! Dragonfly farms has them, couple of mine are dead ringers for pics on their site. I just wonder how such small birds are going to become laying powerhouses, or that’s how they’re described..the lavender or smoke colored one is so funny..she acts like she doesn’t want to be touched, but is always pulling at my clothes, or cleaning seeds off my shoes..in fact, Dragonfly has one that looks exactly like my lavender, but theirs has facial feathers too..! Or was it Silver Homestead..

Murray did make a sub, but it was two extra Cuckoo Marans for a cream Legbar hatch that didn’t go as planned..they allegedly tell you of the subs, and you have to ok that before the order is completed..you can designate replacements or not, and replacements from their entire chick inventory their choice all female, or chick breeds all female only from breeds on your own order..it was my first time ordering from them, they were great, I kept adding things for 9 months..!

Yes, they are lovely birds. I just wanted to insert a possible answer if anyone did begin laying eggs that weren't blue.

I toyed with getting some, but they were unavaliable when I placed my order

Don’t just rely on the website..if you call them, sometimes there are cancellations, that’s how I got four instead of two! I called to add stuff, and casually mentioned what I really wanted was more WTBs, and they said “we had some cancellations, how many more do you want?”
