the Will They Hatch? thread

Actually that's not a planned cross , they just happen to be in the same pen for the winter . I'm crossing CX and show quality Dark Cornish with Ameraucana and EE , trying to develope an Ameraucana type , blue/green egg layer with bigger size and better meat qualities ........................... along with winter hardiness .

I am really excited about these! I would even love a Dark Cornish that lays colored eggs. I am hoping you are successful with this.

It would be interesting to know just how cold an egg can get to before it kills it . I hope you still get a decent hatch .

Do you turn by hand ? I've seen pics od eggs stacked on an auto turn rack like I have , but have never tried it to see how they ride . Plus , in my still air , those stacked eggs will be very warm .

Thank you .
Hopefully , the breeder quality , DC cockerals can cross with the CX pullets this spring . I'm thinking the results from that cross would be very meaty , large , and quicker to grow than those straight Cornish . That would give me a line to keep for future outcrosses needed to add more type to the blue eggers .

Want one of your chickens to go broody? I've got the perfect solution! Just stick some eggs in your incubator and a week later: Voila! Broody chicken.

Cases in point:
1. New years hatch - put eggs in bator... One week later, GLW goes broody. Hatches out 3 little chicks.
2. Trader Joes Will They Hatch - put eggs in bator... 7.5 days later, banty goes broody. Today I had to remove SEVEN large fowl eggs and TWO golf balls from under that little hussy. And for being so tiny boy does she have attitude. She opens her beak about 2 inches and makes sounds like the velociraptor from Jurrasic Park did.

Where is the like button? Oh oops, I forgot I wasn't on facebook.

I look for the "like" button a lot on here too...

I got a video of Banty when I was removing her eggs... NO I DON'T WANT MY GOLFBALLS BACK YOU CRAZY HUMAN! GIVE ME MY EGGS!!!

Just had to go out AGAIN and take her off the nest AGAIN.

Sigh.

SCG: That video was too cute. I love how Hoppy (I'm assuming that is her) just barges in and grabs a feather.
