the Will They Hatch? thread

Do you think all the clear eggs were infertile, or could it be because they were nearly frozen that they did not develop? I know I have been having 100% fertility lately, so this batch will sorta be a test on that. If these cold eggs do not develop, I am thinking it will due to being so cold.

I had marked the eggs but did not think to record the numbers , but I know I saved every egg coming from my most preferred breeding pen and not a single one developed . There were 5 [ though I think at the time I typoed 4 during the NY hatch ] EE eggs I returned to the bator because they were too dark and dense to be absolutely sure they were clears . They turned out to be clear . Every egg marked CXC came from the same pen and were also clear . On the last two days before setting I was able to replace some eggs from the other pen that I had marked as cold or were the oldest ; I don't know how many I did not mark F [ for frozen LOL ] as I gathered because I just couldn't decide if they were too cold or not . As I think about it now , I probably did not set too many that were gathered with a very cold feel .

My confidence in my incubateing skills took a dive this morning . I had set the wafer at a point where I thought it should be and fell asleep last night with it still running one degree under target ................................................. it was at 104 this morning . Two of the five remaining shipped eggs , that I examined and determined to have sound shells , appear to have hairline cracks . Instead of the 25 eggs I counted from my own pens , there are 30 . [ I can;t even count anymore , and I was once considered a math whiz LOL ] Oh well , I did call this the Will They Hatch thread

After hearing amazement from many, on the current 12 that sat for min. of 2 weeks in my basement, and are all currently in lockdown with LOTS of moving... I am going to be doing a purely experimental incubation using the 20 eggs that have been sitting in my basement the past 5-6 weeks. I will update here with candling results for this group. They should get set on/around the 11th or 12th(Farmers' Almanac's reccomended setting dates)

Oh my gosh!

Howdy neighbors!

I sat 16 white silkie eggs from my flock that are due to hatch Feb. 24th. And was still collecting eggs through this darn blizzard. The eggs may have

been still warm but I wasn't, running to the coop every couple hours. Some of them are a few days older than I normally like but I sure wasn't going

to try to incubate through the blizzard. We'll see how they do.......

....will they hatch?

Oh yes, they will but wonder how many.

Nice to see some more local faces around.

We never know unless we give them a chance .

This is only my third time trying to hatch eggs [ not counting one attempt as a kid ] and the first two resulted in me being blessed with a few chicks hatched against the odds [ porous eggs , low fertility , temperature problems , poor hygrometer readings , power outages ] . This set is the worse so far , on probable egg viablity , and probably none should hatch . But if I'm meant to have chicks from these eggs , I'll not know it unless I do my best to let them hatch .
