the Will They Hatch? thread

I've never had a problem with hens getting 'early' babies as long as they were sitting well and had had a reasonable period on the nest.

I also look at it this way, if your thinking of aborting the hatch it sure can't hurt to try letting her mother it.

I'd check she's serious with other eggs or golf balls but if she is I'd let her have 'her' egg.

Okay, hatchers...ADVICE NEEDED!

So I'm almost to lockdown with batch #1, supposed to be the "only" set, but we all know how that goes.... So I bought a dozen shipped eggs and took 5 to my friend, to do an egg swap, so I'd have more of a variety. She gave me 12 for my 5. Anyhoo, these eggs were supposed to be for my son's preschool, and right when I get home from getting these eggs, she emailed that she can't do it anymore at the school, but she would be happy to loan me her bator. I think it's an LG.

Here's the sitch: I have eggs due 2/18, 2/26 and now 3/6. I have a tank Brower that works great, but I can't see anything. If I move some eggs to her LG, which ones should it be and when?

Move just the LOCKDOWN ones?

HELP!!!!!

I would use the bower for incubating , then move them to the LG at lockdown for hatching .................................. that way you can watch all the action LOL .

That's me too Steve. I just want babies, regardless of what they are. I'm already a hatching addict.

I plan on raising these till I can sex them and get some idea what they are and then I'll probably sell them if there is nothing I really want to add to the layer pen.

After two bad hatches (caused by rough shipping and stoopid weather

) I'm not game to order more expensive eggs till I get another good hatch.

Thank you! I think I will look at LG's instructions online. Luckily the LG will have about 36 hours to warm up before my eggs need to go to lockdown.

I am exactly the same way. One is wonderful, two is great, more is fantastic.

Are you talkin' chicks or incubators ?

I think my female is too small... she's not a bantam, but not full size LF either... darnit. My 1 Del egg wasn't developed, no suprise unfortunately. Some of the EE's blue and green ones weren't either... no biggie there. Pulled about 5 EE's eggs, 4 OEs and some barnyard mixes, about 20 total. Got another 12 to candle in a few more days that were set on the 11th.

Goodness...I need new batteries! I couldn't see through some of those Blue EE eggs...
