the Will They Hatch? thread

WOW congrats Steve! Wish someone was doing that here. LOL

Just went into lockdown for the 28th. Only 3 of the TJ eggs made it that far. Will be nice if they make it. They're in there with some Barneys and Wellies.

Hey all. I lost track of this thread. I posted on day 18. Well, 21 came and nothing. There was no movement, no veining. So I pitched the lone egg and started over with some shipped and some home growns......

1st row (L to R) are my pullet's eggs. all orps, 2nd and 3rd rows have d'uccles and serama/oegb (local pick up), 4th row has some orp crosses(local), ees(local) and an OE(shipped), and the last two rows have oprs and 2 FBCM eggs all shipped from Kansas.

I'll candle on Saturday or Sunday night - depending on how patient I can be!

On a side note, the gal I got the seramas from offered to send me more eggs for the price of shipping. I haven't decided if I want to or not......What would you guys do? Oh, and I know it's not her fault, this was a PO thing.

Think im in steve

got twelve buff orps SHIPPED!!just candled there day four only one looks like it has started to develope.I guess that its to early to set?. eggs came from england. the seller was really nice he says that if more than six candle clear to send them within fourteen days of receiving and he will replace do you reckon he will send back twelve eggs:/ when do will i take them out for deffo?

Just received shipped eggs.Had no choice, no one around here has what I wanted. Well 6 outta 13 are smashed.Looks like the PO set something really heavy on top of the box. Wish me some more luck.Im gonna need it!

Well, out of 7 BCM eggs, 4 hatched (one shrink wrapped and I helped), 1 was a dud, and the other two are still in the bator but not looking good.

So, to make myself feel better, I went to the feed store and bought some chicks! Same hatch date as mine, so it was an easy integration. They're all pullets, and I got 1 RIR, 2 Wellies, 2 Speckled Sussex, and a couple of Barred Rocks for my girlfriend.

I feel so much better now!

Sorry about the Serama egg. Very generous offer of the shipper to replace them when it was the PO's fault, totally your call on whether or not to accept; but if I was wanting Seramas I believe I would accept the offer and pay the shipping!

for all of the eggs.
U.S. Cell is my carrier, not sure if this is a nation wide action, or it was only a mistake they made when setting up my account. I'm just guessing, but figure they might have lost a class action lawsuit over their taxing policies on internet service.

Welcome !
What kind of bator did you find ?
Wow , 31 shipped [ and expensive] eggs purchased for your first run ? You're not foolin' around !

I'm not sure it's pretty beat up. It has a strong man on the label. I can't see much more than that. And no, I wasn't foolin' around. I learned about the Marans and dedided that I have to breed them. It might cost me but it will be worth it!

Just wanted to give an update.
Bought 25 eggs but received 31 total! (shipped)
24 went into lockdown.
20 have hatched, 4 still in bator.
Thanks to everone for your help on my first hatch!!
Kathy from Kentucky

You never know where the damage occurred; I think the airlines that contract to move mail are sometimes to blame.
I worked as a grower in a greenhouse for a few years; we received rooted plants, plant cuttings, and equipment delivered by FedEx, UPS, trucking companies, and even a private shuttle service transporting from the airport direct to us. Damaged shipments were common with all. A mom and pop team delivering started plants by semi were undoubtedly the best; when they had damaged loads they warned you before even opening the trailer doors, explained what happened, requested you figure the damage percentage for a written report, and they notified the sourse by phone from our office. The private shuttle, oddly enough, was by far the worst.
