Conquistadores did not wipe them out. The Maya Indians are still alive and well in southern Mexico. Quiche, one of the Maya languages, is recognized by the Mexican government. The Aztecs didn't get obliterated either. They are still alive and in Mexico. Very few of these Indian tribes were wiped out completely in the conquest. Most often, a large portion of them died of small pox and following generations intermarried with the Spanish.

From what I have heard, the current Maya populace in Mexico isn't terribly worried about the world's end.

Actually it was called the "" Stone Of The Fifth Sun "" ,but it seems that someone decided that It "" MIGHT "" mean something else ! The door was opened and all the lunitic's came and breathed life into something that they clearly don't understand or even have the slightest idea as to how to read ( although some now "" Think "" they do ) .Misleadingly called the Calendar stone because of the day signs encircling it's centre ,this massive carving had much greater signifiance-----a depiction of the Aztec cosmos.It's complex symbolism is still not understood by scholars and unfortunatly everyone has jumped onto the band wagon ( Hollywood ) and tried to profit from it .As was mentioned the Conquistadors destroyed all but a few remaining transcripts ( on animal hides ) to which if we had more of we might had a chance to better understand what happened to this amazeing culture ..................truly one of histories great loss's and sadly we will never really know it's true meaning .

I really hope it doesn't end because my incubator is wrapped & under the tree & my eggs will be getting here in January. I really want to hatch chicks. Besides if the Mayans were so smart why didn't they leave a note when they left.

They are no more extinct than the Romans are extinct despite suffering a large Imperial collapse long ago.

Reality: The Earth has always been subject to being hit by asteroids, although big hits are very rare. The last big impact was 65 million years ago (that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs). Today, NASA astronomers are carrying out a survey called the "Spaceguard Survey" to find any large near-Earth asteroids long before they hit. NASA has already determined that there are no threatening asteroids as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs. (Their work is done openly with the discoveries posted daily on the NASA Near-Earth Object Program Office website, so you can see for yourself that nothing is going to hit in 2012).

Seriously, I don't believe ANY of those things nor do I worry too much about the looting and raiding going on. Even right down to the collapse of the California fault...remember that movie?! Take it one day at a time and I am not even worried about Dec 21st, it will come and go like any other day.
