The worst happened

Very sorry. I would reinforce the coop with something stronger than chicken wire. Chicken wire keeps chickens in but doesn't really keep anything out. I would also work on training the dogs. I'm not a believer in the tying the chicken to the dog. Dogs are intelligent but not intelligent enough to put 2 and 2 together and realize that killing the chicken caused it. Besides, most dogs LOVE to roll in dead or stinky things (witness the chicken/duck poop that my LGD pup is always rolling in).

Reinforced run and training dogs should lower the chances of it happening again.

I agree, that won't teach your dog one thing. Dogs are predators, don't forget. They have to be trained to include chickens as part of the family.
We have electric poultry fence and it took 2 zaps each for my dogs to understand hens are off limits, and only once for my cat. Now before anyone gets all sappy for my poor animals, I've been zapped many times and its no worse than a good static shock from the carpet.

Anyway, so sorry to hear abut your hen

My black lab got into my show bird coop an killed all 20 of my breeder birds and I had to start over on my folk of show birds and now that dog does no longer live with me anymore but now I have 52breeders and I sell my just okay ones

Sorry for your your loss.
I hate to here anyone loosing there chickens but to me its even worse when it comes from a domestic dog. I lost one a week or two ago the second time i let them free range this year. The new neighbors dog got her now i don't think i can let them free range anymore.
Stinks...

Oh i know!!
I don't understand, my rooster was with them, I thought he would have went after the dog. but he bailed out... he was the first one home.
I felt bad for them because the old neighbor used to feed them so they thought nothing of wandering into there yard but they were ambushed.
darn dog. i secretly wish my roo spured it in the neck. shhhh

Even if the rooster had done something, doesn't mean he would've lived. About 2 weeks ago, my neighbor's dog came back again. It killed a hen and a roo. From placement, I think the roo was going to help the hen. It was the second time for me with this neighbor.

I reported it to the sheriff. They went to tell him, nobody home, went back and ended up shooting one of his dogs (not the one from this time but it's friend from last time). Neighbor came by, apologized, compensated me (insistently) and said he was getting rid of or shooting the other dog.

I told him I was sorry that his dog got shot but if I had gotten out there before the dog got off my property, I would've shot them myself.
