I have noticed that it depends on where you got them from. On my hatchery chicks their first feathers had poor lacing, some with none at all. Once they had their first molt their lacing improved. However they are no where near as nice as show quality birds. My show quality chicks that I got from a breeder, (chickenhill and delisha) have very nice lacing on their first feathers. They have not had their first molt yet so I don't know what to expect, however their parents are stunning and I expect them to look great (they already do).
Wyandottes have rose combs.
However a single comb can pop up once in a while due to a recessive gene. Single comb is recessive (r,r) while rose comb is dominant (R,r or R,R). It only takes one copy of the rose gene(R,r) for the rose comb to be expressed (seen). In this combination the bird carries a single comb gene, and if bred to another bird that has a rose comb but carries a single comb gene there is 1/4th chance the chicks will have a single comb. If bred to a bird that has a single comb 1/2 of the chicks will have a single comb.
