The Wyandotte Bantam Thread

Just registered here to look for more breeders of these great chickens! There's a page on Facebook but everyone is in the Netherlands. Awesome breed.

So far I just have two SLW pullets. Looking for a few more.

Athens, GA USA
I'm looking to get SLW bantams in the spring. It is so hard to find APA standard quality bantam SLW in the US.

I ordered my bantam eggs off of ebay.

I ordered Blue Laced Red, but there were some nice looking Columbian and Black.

Here are two of the ones that hatched.

I have one wyandotte standard breed. When do chicks start to get their markings? Do wyandottes have rose combs?
I have noticed that it depends on where you got them from. On my hatchery chicks their first feathers had poor lacing, some with none at all. Once they had their first molt their lacing improved. However they are no where near as nice as show quality birds. My show quality chicks that I got from a breeder, (chickenhill and delisha) have very nice lacing on their first feathers. They have not had their first molt yet so I don't know what to expect, however their parents are stunning and I expect them to look great (they already do).

Wyandottes have rose combs.

However a single comb can pop up once in a while due to a recessive gene. Single comb is recessive (r,r) while rose comb is dominant (R,r or R,R). It only takes one copy of the rose gene(R,r) for the rose comb to be expressed (seen). In this combination the bird carries a single comb gene, and if bred to another bird that has a rose comb but carries a single comb gene there is 1/4th chance the chicks will have a single comb. If bred to a bird that has a single comb 1/2 of the chicks will have a single comb.

I got mine from some feed store. She is three weeks and NO LACING!!! I will be so dissapointed if she has no lacing at all...

It may take some time for her to develop her lacing since she is hatchery stock, that is if the feed store identified her correctly. I'll post pics of mine on Wednesday so you can compare.
