The Wyandotte Thread

Are most folks on this thread more apt to buy from breeders rather than hatcheries? Are hatchery birds low quality and not as beautiful? Do hatchery birds have health and genetic problems? I'm new to heritage birds and we do not have any breeders in a driveable distance from us so we settled on hatchery birds. Should I have been more diligent in finding this breed?

One more thing. Where can I get some of the less common varieties of this breed, such as Blue? I've never seen them sold commercially so I'm assuming I'd have to find a breeder?

Would you like a few hatching eggs?

We are hopefully about to move (not far) so it will be a bit before we can think about setting up a hatcher and brooder.

I just purchased chicks that were listed as 'Wyandotte pullets'
There were a handful of this red brown shade-any hints on what type they are?
They are exhausted from their trip home ha ha.
TIA!

Most hatchery's are pretty good about shipping. I've had chicks shipped from TX and I'm in VA so I feel you shouldn't worry about shipping to much. However there are that one batch every now and then that don't make it through shipping...
