The Wyandotte Thread

Really happy with how these two pullets and two cockerels are growing out. The first pair is darker and is showing more blue behind the white dot, whereas the second pair is showing not enough blue and too much white. (for now)

I have some GLW and Partridge pullets and I've been looking for a roo for them. I can find Buffs and SLW locally very easily.
I'm brand new to genetics on chickens-what would the resulting chicks be colorwise? These are all hatchery chicks-I'm not looking to show or breed for SQ. Just curious about color genetics.
TIA!

From all the research I've done on breeding, if you mix GLW with Buff or SLWs you'll end up with Splash. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks! That's very interesting. I'm starting to doubt that mine are what I was told-I need to post a pic and see what the experts think!

Definitely not Splash (Blue splashes over white background)
GLW x Silver laced will probably just give you diluted GLW, somewhat sex linked, so the cockerels could be lighter gold then the hens.
GLW over Buff is somewhat more interesting, possibility of double laced or half spangled.
Perhaps when somebody suggested Splash, they really meant Spangled?

Here are some pics of the chicks today. I was told the dark gray ones were GL but I see such a difference between those and this other dark chick with more gold color. The brown ones are supposed to be Partridge. I'd like to know what y'all think!
I was told the chick on the left is GL and the right is partridge

This is a better shot of chick #1 who is supposed to be a gold. There are two just like this.
These chicks have noticeable tail feathers emerging while the other colors do not.

Chick #2 is supposed to be Partridge

This chick #3 is also supposed to be gold. Certainly way more gold in color then #1!

And here's a birds-eye-view of the "GL" on either side of what I think is the real GL. (Two little SS on the right)

Thanks for any help identifying this little cuties!

I'm such a novice at Wyandottes, I'm not sure what the terms are yet. Splash or Spangled - I'm not sure what the difference is!
