The Wyandotte Thread

Sexing a Wyandotte at 10 weeks can be done by examining the neck/cape and saddle feathers. A pullet will have rounded tips and the cockerels will be pointed.
I watch the wattles too. Usually the cockerels will redden up faster.
Next, I look for a spur button on the inside of the leg above the feet. Rarely a pullet will have a button, but it can papoen.

I have Columbian Wyandotte, a few Blues, a few Blacks, a quad of White, a trio of Barred and a few Blue Columbian. In the past I had some Silver laced, Blue Laced Red and Black Birchen.
If you can't tell, Wyandotte is my favorite breed.

Where do you get Barred Wyandotte chicks?

Some Wyandotte chickens carry the slow feathering gene. In my case these have been by most beautiful birds.

Could it be because he's a rooster Maybe? I got 5 BLR girls and one boy. Someone mentioned that roosters can take longer sometimes. Every other chicks out of 15 are feathered out and this one is still pretty bald lol

And this chick does have the prettiest colouring though it was a splash but now I'm not sure...

the chick does not look like a splash. With the slow feathering I have had both cockers and pullets. On slow feather I look at the legs are they thicker then the other chicks? the come area is it wider then the other chicks? thicker legs and wide come area has always been a cocker for me.

The Columbian Wyandotte was developed by breeding a White Wyandotte to a Barred Rock. After years of development, the Columbian pattern was set.
Over the past three years, I have bred my Columbian Wyandotte to a White to improve size, leg color and comb texture. With careful selection and breeding the F1 back to Columbian this has been very productive in improving my Columbian.
In addition, I get Barred offspring along with the CW color. I saved the nicest Barred cock and the best two hens. I'm test breeding them this year to see what pops.

By breeding my best Columbian cock with a very nice SOP Blue hen I got both Blue Columbian and Black Birchen....and a lot of parti-colored birds.

@NanaKat
I'd love to see a pic of the blue Columbian

Here are a few mixed with some of the Barred that @Shilo7 asked about.
In the last photo there is a Blue Columbian next to a Columbian. Same difference as seen between a Brahma and a Light Brahma

I have a few extra Lavender Wyandottes that I want to offer for sale when they are 15 weeks old. What price should I ask for them? Thank you
Look in BST and see what other folks are charging, look at your local livestock swap pages, those will help you figure out what to charge. I would probably charge 25-37. They are fairly rare. Pretty chicks!
