The Wyandotte Thread

She finally looks like a pullet to me......especially in the last picture of her.

I have to make some decisions very soon on what to do with my 17 cockerels (26 weeks old) that I got from an order I placed with Paul's Poultry this spring. The farmer down the street is going to process the extras for me, but I am holding out one last hope that someone is interested in taking some of the nicer ones to a good home. Below is what I think is the best one (thus so many pics of him), but I don't know about the details of the exact breed standard. I am going to attempt to keep 4 for myself. Some are an easy choice because they have single combs (which is a shame, because they have beautiful coloring). Anyway, opinions -or potential takers!

- of what people think as far as keeping or going would be helpful. I'll post more pics as I can get them today of some of the others.:

(This guy is available-he is in the next 5 photos)

I will be posting 12 + BLRW hatching eggs for sale TODAY.
The auction will end tomorrow at noon because I want to ship them out tomorrow afternoon!

I just did a test hatch and 6 of 7 eggs hatched! My incubator malfunctioned on the morning of hatch (I was gone for the night). When I got home, the alarm on the Brinsea Mini Advanced incubator was going off and the temp was 84! I about died. Needless to say, I was thrilled to get six out of seven chicks!

Thank you math ace, glad you like her

I do still have Pocahontas, she's some 8 years old though so I don't think she'll be making any babies... Though there's a handsome young lad prancing about! Here's Gulliver: http://i686.photobucket.com/albums/vv230/celticmoon666/Gulliver.jpg And I have a couple of nice-looking pullets growing so I hope to get some more nice GLWs next year

Anyway I'm Europe based, so exchanging eggs would be a problem....

I would have loved to have my hands on some of the stock I've seen here on BYC!

Gulliver is a very handsome lad. EUROPE ? ? ? Well, the ladies and I on the Marans thread are trying to arrange a road trip to France to get some REAL FBCM, maybe I could talk them into a detour to get some NICE looking wyandottes. . . . We decided to go by BOAT / CRUISE and bring along the incubator !

Sounds like a real project - with a detour from France via Norway you'd better bring some cages for when the chicks hatch as well

By the way I heard that there's really good stock of Wyandottes both in Germany and UK

So I got my first Wyandotte's about a month ago to replace the roosters I originally bought. One my SLW is of laying age and the sweetest thing EVER. My other one is a columbian and still a pullet I was going to give her to the couple taking my black sex link pullet and my Brahma rooster HOWEVER....I've become addicted so I'm probably taking my Columbian with me when we move back to Cali with my family...I really want some BLRW but....I'm lucky my parents are allowing me to bring my ladies at all so....I'll just wait until then....
