If I remember correctly the gentleman in Iowa that you may be referring to is Jerry Toms. He is no longer breeding those varieties and passed his birds on to other breeders but only know of one person who was raising any of those varieties in the past.
It would be interesting to see some breeders promote and work on those breeds since they are already accepted varieties into the ABA.
Yes the person I was referring to was Jerry Toms. I had talked to him at shows in the past and at one time planned on getting birds from him. I wish I had. I don't have the time or space to recreate varieties, but if I ever come across the rarer colors, I'll pick them up and work with them. They still pop up occasionally at shows or swaps so I'll keep my eyes open. Were there any colors you were particularly interested in?
Love this thread! I'm ordering my wyandottes on Feb 1. They will be backyard chickens for eggs, not going to show them. I'd love to order from Paul's Poultry, too but don't need 24 birds.
I realize I could/should ask these questions elsewhere on the site but I want information specifically from people who have raised wyandottes.
What are your feelings and experiences with medicated feed for chicks - yes, no and if yes, for how many weeks?
I've read several different things about when to switch from chick starter to a pullet or grower type feed and then to layer feed. What do all the wyandotte lovers suggest?
Thanks! Everyone's pictures are gorgeous and the info is great!

I keep mine on medicated chick starter until they're big enough (usually about 4 months) to go in with the adults. After that they get Purina flock raiser and I keep oyster shell out for the layers.
I would sure split some SLW from Paul's Poultry if there is anyone within a couple of hourse of Fort Collins Colorado. I would do the drivng I too just dont Need ( more like dont want to spend the money) for 24 birds.
