The Wyandotte Thread

Jim, I would like to thank you again for putting me in touch with Andy. I just got off the phone with him and he was a wonderful man to talk to and full of good information. I hopefully will have my eggs with in month.

I've yet to find a breeder of truly good Gold Laced Wyandottes.

The good part about colors is that there are more and more people interested in them. There will be some good GL soon. Maybe you can get Pauls to post some of their pics. I'm still waiting for the day when someone gets a Golden or a Partridge as best of breed at a meaningful show. I think it will be soon. There are pretty good people working on the rare colors right now. The color I'd really love to see is the Silver Pencilled. They need lots of work, too!

I wish it weren't snowing and cold out. I'd love to get some pretty pictures of my birds on grass again!

we have snow and another snow day tomorrow....the kids are driving me bonkers. Theyneed to get out and run!
I think there is a lot of new interest in the GLWs and more breeders will work with them I hope. Not sure we have any more time or room for another variety or I would get some too. The silver pencilled are very pretty. We have the bantams and love them.

I get all the neighborhood kids sledding down our hill then in the house for board games and Hot Chocolate. I miss the sounds of young people and love snow days.

I'm looking to get a small flock of exhibition quality white wyandottes, standard size. I want to get some kids in this area started in exhibiting poultry, and this is one of the breeds I would like to work with. If any of you that follow this thread have a trio, day old chicks or whatever, PM me or reply here. I'm hoping I can get "the best of the best" to help get these kids started. I did this with other breeds where we used to live, and our poultry shows really grew. I moved here about 4 years ago, but had no way to keep chickens until this year, so I'm getting my flocks built back up.

When I had to move, I gave my show birds all to my sister to keep. She did a wonderful job and got a lot of kids started down in her area, including starting a poultry club and more than tripling the size of their county show. (She was actually more successful with it than I was!)

I would also consider SLW, but they would have to be excellent. I know it is difficult for a SLW to beat a white at a show, and there is nothing like winning to get a kid's interest in something.

Best wishes to all!

If you want the "best" in Large Fowl White Wyandottes you should try and purchase birds from Jonathan Patterson, he wins big and against the best competition...

You could also try Rick Hare in NY, he has very good Whites...

Both of these guys attend a lot of shows and exhibit their birds against top competition year in and year out.
