The Wyandotte Thread

I hope you all get some Partridge. They need people and the best way to get the breed going is to get lots of people raising lots of chicks! Especially these tough color varieties! Sometimes you hatch 15 and only like 1. So if you want to keep about 6 or 8 you need 100 chicks

Maybe I'm too picky, but you have to move forward every year. If you don't improve, you go backward. But if more people have them, the gene pool spreads out fast and I think the birds really improve fast. Look at white rocks, for example. There are probably 10000 people that raise decent white rocks and you can find pretty good ones at almost every 4-h fair--maybe not fabulous ones, but definitely not hatchery quality. I wish that that was what you could find in GL, SP and Partridge. Silvers have come a long way and you could probably find silvers that beat whites regularly. The problem with the silvers is that some judges just won't pick them because they're silver. They might have better wyandotte type the whites, but they aren't white....

Yup....curse the Whites!! Maybe one day a Partridge will win Champ. American.....I always get beat by a White Rock for Champ American...especially when I show up north.

This is one of our roos. We recently got these off a women back in Oct., there was 10 hens 2 roos. The other roo is a splash. My son wanted these chickens for 4H this year. So we traveled over an hour away to get them. The splash rooster was obviously sick, when we got home I noticed a hen sick. I felt bad for these poor chickens because of their living enviroment they were in. Lets just say that place should have been shut down. Now these chickens were badly infested with lice/mites. Still having problems getting rid of them. Very much under weight, and are still fighting off colds. We have them in our shop with a wood stove keeping them warm. I am only hopimg they get better soon. I ordered a bottle of oxine this morning hoping it helps! O and we have other chickens in shop also so the poor rooster have to be in pens because they do not get along!!

Awe poor chickies. Hope you finally get rid of the mites Nancy. Hope you guys get a happy ending and your son can use a couple of them for his 4-H.
There are some really nice breeders here with good healthy stock that will most likely have chickies available this spring.

I have some updated pictures of my BLRW and I think I have the best 2 roos picked out the where hatched Sept ,2010 so they are not that old. Please keep that in mind.

Drives me crazy. You can't win. Maybe I'm a fool, but I don't think the standard even calls for that kind of rock. Way too much fluff and their flippin tails are way too big, imho (or maybe not so humble).

We're starting 4-H too this year, using our BLR's and silvers.

Thats kool, Good luck to you guys! My daughter showed silver sebrights in 2010 at reedsville 4H fair. Won first for best bantam hen and rooster over a year old! She has gold sebrights to show this year. Now the boys want to do it since they know you can win money,LOL

Rock?
Forgot these birds carry Foley,Sterling and Pauls lines. They are a mix of those 3.
I know they look a lot better then my Barber line does.
I'm still learning about these guys and so if you can brake it down to what is wrong and what I can work on that would be great!
I can not learn with out taking the good with the bad so I do not mind if you are not so humble.
All anyone can do is work with what we got and try to get them better right. So these 2 are by far the best out of this group. So this is my starting point.
So feel free to help me along the way. Thanks for your reply.
