The Wyandotte Thread

The only Wyandottes we have a problem with are the bantams.....not all of them, just some of them. The Columbian bantam wyandottes were the worst! We try to breed out the mean ones, but I think a lot of the show people do the same. I don't like feeding the birds with a coffee can in one hand ready to block the mean roosters.

That is true! I have two ah.... mean Ameraucana Roos who I go into the coop holding the fishing net. That is the only way they leave me alone.

I know they are only being protective but hey! So am I! It's nice to be able to bend down and pick my SLW's up without any fuss at all.

Hello! I just wanted to pop in and tell you how much I love my pair of SLW from you. They are splendid! My girl has started laying and I am excited! They are so stunning and I want more running around to enjoy. Thank you so much!

We love ours too. Do you have any photos? We names our Roo "BuckBeak"(as in Harry Potter's Hyppogriff) and the hen "Ghost". Still waiting on an egg from our 2, but it's winter, they can have a break.

Hi Peakybeaky,

I would love to. I can't take credit for them though, Foley's did all the work, I was just lucky enough to get them.

One of these days I would love to show them. I have alot to learn first before that and alot of breeding and culling too.

They look very, very nice! Ours are Foley's too. I feel the same way... they did all the work and we get to enjoy the fruits of all their hard work

the birds look great.

The SLW rooster are big guys and sometimes it takes them a little longer to get fertile in the spring. We just got a fertile SLW egg and the lights have been on them for almost 2 months now. 1 egg out of many...hope it picks up.

They are such puff-balls! How old are yours? I think ours are about 8 months or so. They are pretty young yet (the hen isn't ready to lay yet). I'm so glad to have found this breed. They are so nice and great for cold climate. We get to add another coop in the spring-we have it, but it's too cold out to work on it, so we'll have one for the BLR and one for the silvers. One will be "the Mansion", the other "the guest house". Then all we'll need is a broody hen

Well Mrs. Turbo, that green grass took alot of watering to stay that color! Thank heavens for well water. I will be patient with them and not expect much for awhile, thanks for the heads up.

I just want them to be safe and happy. We do have predator issues here so I can't free range them like I would like to but he is getting the "mansion" as soon as it is finished. He'll need to share it with the English Orps but I think they deserve this new coop. 16 x 24 and 5 windows. I just about fell over when I saw it finished. It looks alot different than just the raw materials and my hubbys good friends had the shell up in days. But I roofed it!

Peakybeaky (gotta tell you, I love that name) I don't know how old mine are, I never asked! Guess she is old enough to lay so I would say about 8 months. The eggs are still small and she has been laying on and off a few weeks.

These birds have just up and walked off with my heart. I knew I wanted them along time ago but I just never found the quality I was looking for. One look at the Foleys site and I my heart was beating overtime. Thankfully they put me out of my misery and let me have some!
