The Wyandotte Thread

If you use a Columbian, you should get the penciling back in the second generation on half of the chicks. Let me get back to you on that. This is something I've been looking into but I need to look at a good book quick. I'll tell you tomorrow.

Co is just a normal gene, but pencilling a combination effect (according to Carefoot). It combines brown, the pattern gene and silver. So it you crossed the Co in, then went back to the pencilled on the second generation, you should get some pencilled. I'm sure you'd run into some other problems, but I think it could work. I agree that a decent partridge would be better, but you already have Columbians, so why not try? In my opinion, it's a lot better than a cross-breeding, but sometimes you have to do that, too. Funny thing, too: If you take those F1s and cross them on Laced birds, you should get some decent laced birds in the first year and close the loops in the second generation! Columbian is part of what forms lacing...

Ok...back to Wyandottes.....

Is anyone going to Crossroads this year? Hope there is a big turn out for Wyandottes and it would be nice to get a group together to show the BLRWs. That is one way to get people interested in working with them and getting them ready for the APA.

Can't help you there because we will have 3-4 kids too....LOL
Just a heads up though....there is nothing romantic about a chicken show.

sure hope you made better plans for Valentines day Haha

Yeah, getting a significant other to a chicken show that isn't easy. Then they are bored the whole time.
Jerry, at least if I get married it's an excuse to get away! What is the next show you are going to?
I'm enjoying all the talk on here about getting the silver pencilled up and going again. Rudy is very passionate about saving and fixing these varieties. I know there are some decent ones out there for a good start. Rudy and I went to Wilbur Stauffer's several years ago and he had a silver pencilled LF male that was the size of my whites. Color was good just needed a little help on type.
