The Wyandotte Thread

C'mon Reg, get some porcelain wyandottes (speckled sussex colored), I would sell my soul for some of those eggs.

Is it time to update your signature again? Chicken addicts...I'm sure glad I don't have that problem. At least not right now. None of my eggs are fertile...

I guess you are right....it is official now that we are putting the GLW eggs in the incubator, but I will do it later. Just got up with the baby again and it is 3 in the morning.....couldn't go back to sleep. I bet yours is sleeping through the night. This one is trying to break me down and he is days shy of 6 months.

I'm tickled she's laying for you. She was under lights for 3 weeks before you got her. Couldn't tell how often she was laying though since she was living with the rest of the wyandotte hens. I did have the glw rooster hanging with them. I didn't want you to have any "accidents" from one of the blr roosters.

Seriously, I need a slw cockerel. The last one was excellent...and the hawk thought so too.

So, I just got this info from an AI meeting I went to Saturday. If you breed a hen to a certain rooster and then another rooster a few days later, the most recent rooster is the one that gets used first. So you probably would have been okay anyway if you've had her a couple days and only with the GL rooster. If he keeps mating with her, the newest semen is the stuff that will fertilize all the eggs and the oldest stuff eventually just gets wasted.

She should be okay. She's only been with gl for the past 3 weeks. The blr roosters are playing uncle in the juvenile pen with prepubescent EEs. The AI sounds very interesting. A great use since my roosters wouldn't guarantee they're covering all the hens. They do seem to have their favorites. Come March, I try to have a cockbird per 6 hens. Do you think that would be a good ratio?
