The Wyandotte Thread

I will take a picture of all the sp chicks in the brooder for you...maybe they dont look that different than yours..could be the lighting...but my SP chicks have always been very light colored with gray chipmunk stripes on the back..they change alot as they feather out.

You know Jerry, Ive been thinking about why there might be such a difference in chick color. All I can think of as the possibility is that when James Harris started my line of SP with crossing SP Rocks with Partridge Wyandottes 20 years ago the chicks have kept some of the color of that initial cross throughout the years. I guess that goes back to every line of any breed has its own history and however they might be the same breed there are subtle differences within those lines.

Here are is the finished product of the pens I've been working on for a few weeks.

Day 13...Just checked our BLRW broody, looks like 8 out of 9 eggs are fertile and going strong! Poor girl...I don't know how they do it. I hope she's a good Mom. The kids are LOVING the entire learning experience.

Plus we have 16 eggs in the incubator-trying to get a few more SLW. Reminds me of a science fair project- I like the broody better so far, It's a pain to keep checking that darn thermometer!

OH I wish one of mine would go broody. How old are they usually when they do?

You can have one of my broodys I got plenty to go around! I have one sitting on a nest with NOTHING and she still continues to sit.

we keep moving a broody around and she won't give up, even did the wire cage....etc....guess we could put some call duck eggs under her, but she is one of our best BLRWs....

Wow Ms Turbo! They are stunning! I just hatched my first 5 BLRW yesterday from Sonew's eggs! Two splashes and three blues! I will deff be watching feataherauction this fall....I would LOVE to get a started pair from you! My plan is to phase out all of my mixed layers and replace them with BLRWs. If I can convince DH to hand over just ONE MORE shed, I would love to get some SLW too, but we will see!
