The Wyandotte Thread

Does anyone have any experience with wyandotte eggs hatching in 22 days instead of 21? This is my second hatch with them and that seems to be a trend because the other eggs in the incubator were different breeds and they hatch mostly on day 21. They are BLR if that makes a difference.

If your other eggs are also hatching late, but not quite as late, it could indicate your temp needs a little, little boost. I find that different varieties/breeds hatch differently but have not noticed that Wyandottes as a breed hatch differently than others. I think it more a strain thing. My Red Dorkings and Silvers Hatch differently. My Partridge Wyandottes hatch differently than my SL, etc. Depends on lots of factors.

Just don't open the incubator to take the other peeps out. You'll shrink wrap the unhatched BLRs right inside their shells. (You probably know that, thought.)
I know where you got the eggs and I'm sure she will pop in to let you know her trends, which I believe were 22-23 days.

Rasie your incubator temp 1/2 degree. Thermometers are never quite right, adjust the incubator to the hatch,

awww man! That stinks I can't make it to crossroads! I am looking for a Partridge cockerel and a couple of other varieties of cockerels, but no luck around here so far. The Western Nationals are in Lincoln this year for the Wyandottes, but I have a feeling there are not going to be nearly as many Wyandottes here as there will be at Crossroads.

the ones in the background are jersey giants and auburn java. just incase someone wanted to know.
they are in the chick coop. 4 months old.
So what do yall think of your 1/2 grown chicks?

I may be acquiring a BLRW pullet in a few days who is almost the size of a Jersey Giant I am told. The pics of her are huge but Im beginning to rethink this choice. Is there maybe a health problem she could be harboring? How big do these girls get if from good solid lines?

No health problem you need to be worried about would cause her to get really huge. That would generally be an excellent thing to a breeder.

Im so excited! I love huge birds! I want to raise a flock of giant BLR's
