The Wyandotte Thread

there are some ones nice around both LF and Bantam.. We sold all of our LF earlier this year, going to all bantams. They are so much easier to work with and get ready for show, with considerably less input.

Hi, sorry to butt in, but in you guy's oppinions, are your Wyandotte's freindly? Do they have okay lacing if you get them from a hatchery?
Thanks!

Wyandottes are a docile breed. But like any bird, you need to work with them to be used to your touch. Buying from a hatchery is a crap shoot. Some will have better lacing than others, especially the silver.
Hopes this helps.

I have never had an aggressive wyandotte, I have heard of others who had hatchery stock with aggressive roosters.

As for lacing quality on hatchery stock birds that is all over the board.. it is often less than ideal and absent in some cases, it also does make some difference on which hatchery they came from but in general they in teh business of numbers not quality.

I'd like to add that along with the lacing quality being widely varied with hathery birds, some of the blue laced reds are more gold than red.

It is true, someone imported a few bantams..

Greenfire Farms posted a picture of some here on BYC but was pretty vague about it...

Can I get some feedback on these 3 young cockerels? They are molting badly still and seam to have a fondness for tail feathers. I keep flip flopping about which one is better? I know 2 is the least developed and 1 the most developed. 1 is also the biggest so far but i think the others could match him on size when they mature too what do you think? they are all the same hatch.

Basically, in my opinion, the only way to get a feel of young birds is to handle them. (pun intended) It also depends a lot on what you need to do with them. If you need 2 birds and you're out of space, then you would do something different than if you have 3 months and no restrictions on space or feed. What's your plan?

I like 3s head by far the best. They don't have tails, feet are about the same, don't have enough information about color to make a really good judgement.
