The Wyandotte Thread

Hello all,
New to this site. I raise vegetables for the local farmers market and would like to sell eggs there as well. I have decided on wyandottes as a breed and have chicks on order from Welp and ideal hatcheries. Most of my initial questions you guys have already answered digging through past forums. So I would like to say thank you for those who have helped me already, and ask patience for the questions I may have in the future.

You are gong to love the breed!

Welcome to BYC, by the way!

What are the ones in the first and second picture? Do the feathers have a greenish sheen to them? Those are lovely!!

I also have Buff Orpingtons. I'll post some pictures on that thread later tonight if you'd like to see them. I only have two Buff Orps laying at this time...so I only get about 6 - 8 eggs each week. Same with the SLWs. I'm glad to send her what I can collect in a week.

I took some more pics tonight - using my good camera this time.

Here they are (still looking for feedback on my birds from people familiar with the standard)

Kelly G, those are the reddest combs I have ever seen. Air brushing going on?

What was your source of the SL Wyandottes you have pictured? Late in getting in the conversation, but any thoughts on selling some hatching eggs? I live just North of Kansas City, MO.
Your SL have some good size.

I just set 12 BLRW eggs under my hens the 2nd. Due to hatch the 23rd.

Will be selling chicks, hatching eggs, and started birds this Spring/Summer

Hey, Not Super Woman - the bird in the first two photos is my SLW rooster, and he does have a green irridescent sheen to those feathers. He has matured into such a nice bird - and he's so calm! I just love having him!

Smarsh - no airbrushing...but I used a reflector with a red base to enhance the colors. :)

WDC - I purchased these from as day olds last year from Foley's........I am thrilled with them and may take them to the state fair next year.

I just talked to and placed an order with Duane Urch for LF black wyandotte chicks. It'll be a little less than 25 so LF whites will fill out the box. He didn't have blacks to offer last year so I'm absolutely delighted. Between these and the breeding flock I nicked from the Foleys I should have some nice birds going into the breeding pens for 2013.

I was interested in checking out what Duane Urch has available. Do you know where I could get his information?
