The Wyandotte Thread

Well, I'm biting the NPIP bullet next month so I can ship chicks. The Ag rep was surprised I wanted to wait until March 19th. It's 25 degrees out right now, I don't like the cold weather, lol.

I'm getting into raising Wyandottes I raised Brahmas when I was younger. I like the BLRW and GLW. I got some Columbian bantams to mess with too.

better watch out those columbians are addictive

YAY! Wyandotte thread! I have 2 blue Wyandottes, Lucy and Crystal. I have 2 questions though. 1: Is Lucy a boy? 2: Did I end up with bantams rather then standard sized Wyandottes? I have pictures included so everyone who knows more then I do on Wyandottes can give me some pointers, thanks!

Here is Lucy (left) and Crystal (right) next to a Mt. Dew soda can for size referencing and comparison. They are 3 weeks old today. Are they Bantams or standard sized Wyandottes?

Next question, is Lucy a boy? Here is a picture of Lucy below. He/she is 3 weeks old today.

I noticed that Lucy is starting to look much different then Crystal, who is the same age and is also a blue Wyandotte. Here is a picture of her

Here is a picture of them both together for comparison purposes, side by side. They are both 3 weeks old today. Lucy (left) and Crystal (right)

YAY! I was hoping they were not bantam (smaller predators think twice about a standard Wyandotte as opposed to bantam) because they are free range. I was suspecting Lucy was a cockerel, but am not a chicken expert, so I needed some more opinions. Guess I will need to find Lucy a new name! LOL!

I would say that yes, they're large fowl, and yes, Lucy is a cockerel, with that much comb and wattle development at three weeks!
