The Wyandotte Thread

I have 3 SLW eggs that made it to lockdown :fl I moved everyone around today. One girl was trying to go broody so this is her 2nd move and I put them all with the rooster I think is the better of the 2 younger ones. 1 roo over 4 pullets hens. 2 are laying 1 is molting and the other is near POL. I have a few more in the bator maybe 2-4 that are developing. SUPER EXCITED to see if they hatch. I got some pics of them too.... I just need time to put them on the computer.
:pop Can't wait to see!! This pic is of the New years day hatch. Chocolates, BLR, Partridge, 1 SP, and a couple blacks... In chickie heaven!
So cute :jumpy

I feel your pain!! That really cut into my hatching egg production last year...

Well that is what I first thought too... I found both the bantams in one TINY Priority mail box (used) but I have noticed the roo seems to really peck at her when she comes out and the other girl has just stopped for no reason that I can see... NOT broody anyway. I am thinking of taking the roo out for a few days and let them have the pen and see what happens. OH mine are not outside, but it is not heated either.

try having dorkings and bantam cochins... i've got 2 dorkings and 1 cochin that decided to go broody on me during the coldest week we've had yet this year... as a discouragement, i keep taking them out of the nest when i check for eggs and dumping them on the ground not so gracefully LOL

The silver penciled have been laying for all of a 5 weeks MAX and they are broody, I have had BOTH my laying SLW go broody within a couple of months of starting to lay.... They are the WORST for broody, maybe I will let them just hatch all my babies.... I need some help in that department anyway LOL

I finally have four of mine laying, so I threw one of the boys in with them. The boy knew all the dance moves and finally started mounting, but he never got past the tail to make contact. Took him out and threw a different one and all he does is grab them by the hackles. They are almost 8 months. Recon they are just to young still?

Welcome to the world of Silver Penciled. Mine have always been very broody but do not let that convince you they really want to do that. I never have set eggs under them because they always quit about halfway through.
