The Wyandotte Thread

Here are my Wyandotte gals. Im sure they are not up to SOP but I think they are lovely

"Blue" is just 6 months old and hasnt started laying yet. She has some very pretty iridescent feathers. The GLW is 9 months, Im hoping her lacing improves a bit after her first molt.

I have about 70 Cochin bantams in 7 varieties and show 5 of those varieties. I decided I would not get another variety or breed that would show in the same class. After looking at the Ohio Nationals and seeing NO Gold Laced Bantams I decided to try to find some decent GLW bantams. This is what I found.

Glad you have decided to tackle the Golden Laced. I had them for many years and really loved them. It looks like you have a good start though. Type is workable, color is actually really good too. The heads need some work though. Find a few really good SL females to cross that male with and it would do wonders to help their type and heads.

They are both pretty birds and look SOP to me. You GLW should be laying soon based on her age.
Nice white EE in the back too. Does she lay blue or olive eggs?
thanks! The GLW has been laying since 6 months. The white easter egger is a leghorn/EE cross and lays pink eggs :)

I understand that one of the reasons is that the Cochins are involved in the lineage of the Wyandottes. They certainly have many similiar characteristics ...personality, flocking instincts, broodiness, motherly instincts, weather tolerance, fertility, feathering, foraging skill.....
one advantage of the cochins, at least they start laying a lot sooner than the wyandottes... usually about 5 months.
