I like the structure of her tail but what I really like is the nice angle to it plus her overall symmetry of type. Its all about balance to me. If one part of their body, ie head, chest, tail is larger than the other it throws off the balance of the bird. With the circle and the bird of curves mentality it would seem that balance is paramount.
 
Getting the balance is what I'm working on this year in my LF this year. So far about 150 chicks hatched from four Wyandotte pens still too young to determine type....hatch to six weeks. Will be culling hard on tail so I really appreciate this conversation.
 
Nice looking Columbians! Hang on to those, there are not many good ones out there anymore.
She is a nice looking pullet, once she gets some size on her as a hen she should be impressive!
 
Thank you. Going on my third year with this flock and have one rooster over five hens which includes this pullet as a hen being bred back to her father. Some of the chicks are hers and I have high hopes for them.
 
They have very clear color which is such a hard attribute to obtain on Columbians but they also have great type and very good heads. I just looked at the Birchen project also, very interesting!
 
Again, thank you. There are about 60 chicks from the Birchen pens and they are F1 x F1. Will take the best pullets and split them to breed to their father (Birchen) and grandfather (Columbian). Working on type and color.
